Three years ago, to the day, I launched this site and started writing reviews. I have a lot to be thankful for because of that decision, for both the people I have met in doing so as well as the new things I have learned on this journey.
In those three years, I have written 43 feature length reviews and released two mods of my own, with several more of both in the pipeline. Back in 2022, I was struggling to find an avenue with which to expend my creative energies, and the Smoldering Mods Bar was an answer to that. The reviews are exceptionally fun to write, and I can only hope that they’re fun to read for that same reason.
An overwhelming majority of the feedback and discussions around my reviews have been both thoughtful and respectful, which I love. I enjoy reading the opinions contrary to my own, too — and being able to confidently stand by my own work as something I believe in and am proud of.
It leans into the idea that mods are art. Because they are, and giving them the time of day that respects this fact and encouraging others to do the same has done more f0r my initial mission statement of “get people to play more mods” than I could have hoped.
So, after three years, what does the future of the Smoldering Mods Bar look like?
Well, I’m not planning on stopping the reviews anytime soon. You may have noticed, of course, that the rate of reviews has slowed. I’m not any less motivated to write them as I was before, I simply have more on my plate now with creating mods myself, for which I hold the most passion I’ve had for any of my creative endeavours — and it’s one that I likely would not have dipped my toes into if not for this blog and the people that read it. So, thanks!
I’m having fun. I hope that you are too.
