“In the original Baldur’s Gate, Imoen was a late addition to the game. Unfortunately, this means that she has no banter dialogs or interactions with other NPCs. Her voice set was also limited. This mod expands Imoen’s voice set and adds interaction banters with other NPCs.”
It’s no secret that Imoen ends up somewhat rejected in every game in the series, which is odd considering she’s supposed to be a deuteragonist of sorts — in the original Baldur’s Gate, she was a late addition; in Baldur’s Gate 2 she was intended to be killed and thus received less content than most companions, and in Siege of Dragonspear she’s relegated to the sidelines, only appearing in the intro and outro.
This mod fleshes out Imoen’s voice set a little more using lines taken sparingly from Baldur’s Gate 2 and her appearance in the tutorial. Now, the obvious thing to point out is that there is a difference in the quality and sound of the voice sets between the two games, but it wasn’t as big of a problem for me — a self-proclaimed nitpicker and pedant — as I thought it may be.
Imoen’s generic selection sounds are shuffled around to accommodate this. Some lines have been changed to action-dependent sounds (Imoen whispers “This way,” when using Hide in Shadows) while others, particularly the special selection sounds, are used as BG1-style intermittent banter. This works, for the most part. It feels slightly jarring at first because I’m used to hearing those lines in their original context, but I can definitely see myself growing used to it.
As far as I’m aware, the only cut-content voiceline that made it back in was Imoen’s return-to-party line. It’s small, but it’s cute and I like that it’s there now.
Overall, I don’t see much reason not to install this mod if you’re an Imoen-enjoyer like myself. It’s a very small addition that I recommend trying if any of this sounds appealing to you — not to mention, if you think that the BG1-style NPC interactions are too odd, you can choose not to download them, and you’ll instead just get the fleshed out voice-set and Imoen’s rejoin line.
Thanks for reading.
